Who We Are

GP Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1935 as Georgia Power Rome Division Employees Credit Union, exclusively serving Georgia Power employees working in the Rome, Georgia area. Take a look at our original charter from 1935.

In the late 90’s, we changed our name to Georgia Power Northwest Federal Credit Union and sought out addition Select Employee Groups.

Now known as GP Federal Credit Union, we currently serve over 45 Select Employee Groups whose employees are eligible to join, as well as individuals living in select areas of Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama! In addition, immediate family members of employees are eligible to join, even if the employee isn’t a member! This means we are not exclusively for Georgia Power employees; we may be able to serve you too!

At GP Federal Credit Union, you'll find a variety of savings and lending services, but you will also find additional benefits that other financial institutions just do not offer – like the peace of mind that comes from knowing you are our top priority. When you become a member of GP Federal, you not only become a member, you become one of the owners of the credit union.

Our primary mission is to provide convenient savings and low-cost loans to our members - not to make profits for ourselves. Earnings over and above the required reserves are returned to members through higher savings rates, lower fees, and competitively low loan rates.

On December 11, 2025, the members of GP Federal Credit Union approved a merger with and into Credit Union 1, a credit union serving members throughout the United States. This merger will provide the resources to better serve the financial needs of our members through industry-leading technology, new products and services, and highly competitive rates. We want to be your first choice for a primary financial institution. This partnership will mean we can better anticipate and meet all your financial needs.
